Sarah Blondin is a free weekly newsletter. If you love it, consider supporting it financially. For $7/mo, you’ll gain access to my monthly Q&A and my serial-Folding In. The work I create here is reader-supported, hence the lack of ads and sponsors. Thank you!

Hello everybody. I’m currently reading a book called the writing life by Annie Dillard. I'm actually on my second way through it. As soon as I finished it, I turned it back over to the front and I started it again. If you're a writer, a creative, or anyone that does something that they want to give to the world, I highly suggest reading this. I think it appeals to everyone.

There is a specific paragraph that I'm going to share with you today that has been haunting me. I've sent it to my mom, my brothers, my friends, so I thought I would share it with you now. Seeing as it's Monday morning and we're all sitting down to do our work, I thought it would be a nice thing to read to you all as inspiration and hopefully, it will spark in you the same sort of breath it sparked in me.

“One of the few things I know about writing is this: spend it all, shoot it, play it, lose it, all, right away, every time. Do not hoard with seems good for a later place in the book, or for another book; give it, give it all, give it now. The impulse to save something good for a better place later is the signal to spend it now. Something more will arise later, something better. These things fill from behind, from beneath like well water. Similarly, the impulse to keep to yourself what you have learned is not only shameful, it's destructive. Anything you do not give freely and abundantly becomes lost to you. You open your safe and find ashes.

After Michelangelo died, someone found in his studio a piece of paper on which he had written a note to his apprentice, in the handwriting of his old age: “Draw, Antonio, draw, Antonio, draw and do not waste time.”

-Annie Dillard.

Oooof do you feel that? Do you hear what she's trying to wake in you?

It has always been important that we do our creative work, that we give to the world what we are called to give, but I think now, more than ever, there's a type of urgency. So- give, spend it all. Do not waste time! Have a beautiful day!

p.s. this week’s ‘Folding In’ will be in your mailbox tomorrow (September 28th). If you have not received previous email notifications or are having issues with your account please reach out to the lovely substack support team- support@substackinc.com
