One day you will fall in love. It will come in an ordinary moment when looking out the window. There will be no announcement of its arrival, no scheduled time, but one day, you will be struck by an unavoidable deepening of presence. You will see your life for the first time. You will look it directly in the eyes and it in yours. All the hills you have been climbing will collapse. The islands will sink into the sea, and your wild dreaming, quiet wars, and insufferable demands will fall from your body like brittle leaves. Emptied but loved and cared for. A blessing. The sunrise in your body let out from inside. The blush you have been containing will be free— Gold, crimson, rose, loose, and flying over everything. One day you will fall in love, and it will look nothing like how you imagined it. You will be alone in a dark room, leaking light from your eyes. Just you in a room with an open window and nowhere to hide.

This sacred art of communion with quietness and non-doing is something I fear we are forgetting. Lost in our distractions we teeter on unsound ground. Our love for life lives where we are too busy to look. Be sure to make time to sit quietly, looking out at the world. Who knows when you might fall in love?
